In the Wheel of the Year, today, 1st of August is the celebration of Lughnasadh (pronounced loo-NAS-ah). Also known as Lammas, this is the midway point of the growing season (Beltane to Samhain) and midway between the Summer Solstice (Litha) and the Autumnal Equinox (Mabon). It’s the first harvest of the season, the first time to reap what you’ve sown over Spring.
You probably will not literally harvest wheat from the fields, but todays energy will be working its wonders through your life anyway. It’s a good time to take a break and think about how your year has been and what you would like to accomplish through the rest of Summer/the growing season. This could be literal (plants, crops, flowers) or more figurative such as new skills, habits or projects. You have your own personal harvest to do, of things you have been growing/working on in your life.
Now is the time to be grateful and to pause for a moment at this mid-point, this point of transition from the vibrant energy of Summer to the gradual descent into Autumn. All your efforts from the past several months, are going to bear fruit! Look into your inner self and consider the ways you've been stretching and growing. It's so important to acknowledge the efforts you have put in and celebrate even the smallest things ready to harvest.
In the modern day and age, with the pace of life often hectic and overwhelming, the meaning of Lughnasadh or Lammas is still very important to many Wiccan, pagan, or other spiritual people. During Lughnasadh you can reconnect with the cycles of nature and your own inner rhythms. It's a time to slow down, find balance and recharge your spirits. You can gain clarity through personal reflection, and align yourself with the changing energies of the season.
Celebrate all that Mother Earth gives you by bringing fresh flowers into the house or baking fresh bread. Have a bonfire tonight (especially as this years celebration falls on the night of a Full Moon as well!) to amplify the energies.
Tonight's Full Moon is the first of the two Supermoons this month. You might know the line 'once in a blue moon', meaning something that doesn't happen often. A blue moon is a second Full Moon in a calendar month. This year August is packed full of spiritual high energies. Today we celebrate Lughnasadh and Supermoon in Aquarius. On Tuesday the 8th of August we enter the 8:8 Lionsgate Portal, and on the 31st of August we have our Blue Full Supermoon in Pisces.
Enjoy the energies of August!
